notes from the ever-emerging field
It’s hard to tell young people that universities recognize that their idealism and energy — and lack of information — are an exploitable resource. For universities, the impact of graduate programs on the lives of those students is an acceptable externality, like dumping toxins into a river. If you cannot find a tenure-track position, your university will no longer court you; it will pretend you do not exist and will act as if your unemployability is entirely your fault. It will make you feel ashamed, and you will probably just disappear, convinced it’s right rather than that the game was rigged from the beginning.
Once i got into teaching it got lots better - I enjoy being innovative in teaching, using technology and active learner teaching methods. I’d be happy to give you advice to help you get through grad school, because with your background so far, with a PhD, you would be in a good position to get a tenure track job - which is gold today! I will have an opening here next year and I would love to have someone like you in the position..! so, I hope you will think over doing grad school a little more..and ask me if you need any advice.
You are in the cutting edge field, of course it will change dramatically all the time, but it will be with us for a long time and it is a valuable expertise to have.

This is the sema of slavery and mastery dancing together. This is not being. Neither words, nor any natural fact can express this.
